MY Journey of the Healing Brain

If you can find a way to recalibrate your thoughts in a consistent and deliberate manner you may, in turn, retrain your brain [and body] to defy the odds.

Sometimes there are silver linings after adversity strikes. Fortunately for us, Alaina’s illness has felt that way for our family. Not only was Alaina able to resume living life, but I feel that I and the rest of my family are stronger and wiser for having gone through this experience. As a result of this journey, I now use neural retraining techniques as part of my own health practice. This experience has made me completely fascinated by [or my family might say, a bit obsessed with] neuroscience, epigenetics, consciousness, the role that small ‘t’ and large ‘T’ traumas play in our health … in essence, the brain-mind-body connection that seems to be missing in most of Western medicine, whether it be allopathic, functional or naturopathic.

My goals with this website are to:

  1. Spread a hope for healing through the science of neuroplasticity: If you can find a way to recalibrate your thoughts in a consistent and deliberate manner, you may, in turn, retrain your brain [and body] to defy the odds.
  2. Suggest to doctors not to ignore the growing mountain of evidence (even if anecdotal in nature) that suggests NICS may be the true root cause of many chronic and “mysterious” conditions … and to please understand the nuances of treating this condition.

Some final thoughts …

  • I hope to find a way to help those who are suffering but who may not have the financial and/or emotional resources required to access programs such as those highlighted on this website. If you are such a person, I encourage you to follow the progress of Lissa Rankin, MD’s latest project, healatlast.org
  • hope that SCHOOLS will begin to realize the importance of adding components of neuroscience & mindfulness into the daily core curriculum from early childhood through high school. With the myriad challenges we face – rapidly evolving technologies, environmental assaults, and an ever shifting world – our children will need the healing power of their minds more than ever. What good are excellent academics if our children are not healthy enough – physically and mentally – to make use of them?

* NOTE: Each neural retraining program uses a slightly different term to describe essentially the same condition: the Gupta Program refers to “Neuro-Immune Conditioned Syndrome” (NICS); DNRS refers to “limbic system impairment” or “limbic system dysfunction” or “limbic system trauma loop”; the Lightening Process refers to “physical emergency response” (PER); the Curable app and followers of Dr. John Sarno refer to “psychophysiologic disorders” (PPD); and various functional MDs have their own methods of describing the same chronic brain response. My hope is that in the near future, the medical community will designate a single official diagnostic code for the condition.

For this website, I adopted the GUPTA PROGRAM description of NICS (Neuro-Immune Conditioned Syndrome), as I believe this description most closely captures the essence of the condition.
